Technical and ethical review of research protocols by the SMIOT Research Ethics Committee, in accordance with national regulations (currently in progress).
Through its RENIECYT registration (currently in process), SMIOT is able to establish collaborative agreements with universities, hospitals, and research centers to develop joint projects and provide members with opportunities to participate in research networks and multicenter studies supported by an appropriate administrative framework.

Institutional Objectives

To generate, promote, and disseminate high-quality scientific research in Orthopedics and Traumatology, encompassing basic, translational, clinical, and epidemiological research.
Actively participate in global research networks such as ICORS and establish strategic partnerships with related scientific societies, fostering academic collaboration and engagement in international scientific meetings and conferences.
Design and support educational and training programs for medical students, residents, and early-career researchers, focusing on modern research methodologies, critical thinking, and evidence-based medicine.
Promote the dissemination of research findings through peer-reviewed indexed journals and national and international scientific forums.

Organize congresses, symposiums, workshops, and scientific meetings that integrate the latest advances in medicine, technology, and research in orthopedics and related disciplines.
Contribute to the development and continuous updating of clinical guidelines and evidence-based practice recommendations to improve orthopedic care in Mexico, in collaboration with public and private institutions.
Serve as a platform for the establishment, mentorship, and development of new local and regional scientific societies in orthopedics and related disciplines.

Membership Categories

Full Member

A Full Member is a professional who meets the experience and career requirements established by SMIOT. This includes serving as an Associate or Full Professor, holding a specialty or subspecialty in Orthopedics, maintaining an established clinical practice, or working within industry, government, or the private sector with demonstrated expertise in orthopedics and research. This membership category recognizes individuals who contribute leadership, specialized knowledge, and active participation in the Society's scientific and academic development.

Graduate Trainee

The Graduate trainee is intended for individuals currently pursuing advanced academic training in orthopedics or related disciplines. Eligible applicants include orthopedic surgery residents, master's and doctoral students, and postdoctoral fellows with valid proof of enrollment. This membership supports the academic and professional development of emerging clinician-scientists by providing mentorship, educational opportunities, and integration into the SMIOT research community.

Student

The Student member is designed for undergraduate students enrolled in health sciences, engineering, or related disciplines with active student status. This membership promotes early engagement in research and connects students interested in orthopedic science with opportunities for learning, collaboration, and professional growth within SMIOT.

Affiliate Member

The Affiliate Member is intended for professionals whose technical, administrative, or support roles are essential to orthopedic research and clinical practice. Eligible applicants include laboratory technicians, research administrators, biomedical engineers, radiologic technologists, and professionals involved in research management. This membership recognizes their valuable contributions while providing opportunities for professional development and participation in collaborative research initiatives.

Emeritus Member

The Emeritus Member honors professionals with an outstanding career and significant contributions to orthopedics and the scientific community. Eligibility includes individuals aged 65 years or older with at least 15 years of active SMIOT membership, or professionals whose exceptional achievements merit institutional recognition. Emeritus status is granted upon approval by the SMIOT Board of Directors as a distinction recognizing excellence, dedication, and lasting professional legacy within the Society.
